Dreamy Vintage Nursery Design
As soon as we found out I was pregnant last year (and of course after the usual “holy moly we’re going to parents” shock wore off) I started planning our nursery. I wanted to design a magical little room that was cozy and charming and the start of the type of life I wanted to create for our child - full of beauty and wild charm and fantasy.
I’d say I lean more to design maximalism with a vintage cottage vibe. I’ve loved the cottage style for a while now, and have also always loved a home that feels “collected” rather than overly styled, and I think that’s present in this nursery design. I stumbled across https://prettyinthepines.com/room/nursery/ nursery on Pinterest and loved the charm of it (see image below -isn’t it magical??)
I wanted to wallpaper this room, and it took months before I found the perfect one. This one was from Wallpaper Direct and is called “Minou” in the blue colorway. It’s a traditional pasted wallpaper, which was a bit of a learning curve for us (AKA Damon because I did not participate but did offer words of encouragement). We learned with the pasted wallpaper it’s better to just go quick and not fiddle with it too much. It is BEAUTIFUL and one of my favorite parts of the room. Bonus that it has my favorite flower - Echinacea!
Damon also put up this pretty paneling/wainscoting around the room and we painted it in Sherwin Williams Jogging Path green, along with the doors and trim.. It’s even prettier in person than what comes across on camera. It's moody but also bright at the same time and ties in perfectly with the wallpaper.
All of the art is thrifted, or collected. Damon and I love to find antique stores or local art when we travel and bring home that home as a souvenir to remember our trip. The sweet print of a mare and her foal were collected on a trip to Savannah when we first got married. I didn’t have a spot for it but I remember saying “This will be so sweet in a nursery one day”. The needlepoint “R” hanging above the changing table was made by Damon’s grandma and is a family crest she recreated from an antique set of tea spoons. How cool is that????
